For those of you who supported us for our Mission Trips we want to thank you very much! We have just finished producing, and will be sending soon, our Thank You Newsletters. Pictures and stories throughout the newsletter will help you feel like you were part of the trip, because you were! One thing I want to point out, is that I have made available a few short videos from my trip. If you would like to see them please email becca.holcombe@gmail.com and I will make them available to you.
Thanks again to all of you!
For those of you who have checked up on myself and Becca, thank you! I'm sorry that it has been 3 months since the last time I updated this site. I was a little frustrated with the fact that I could not get video to upload the way I wanted it to.
Both Becca and I leave this coming Monday. We are going to separate locations, but seeking to accomplish the same thing: The furtherance of the gospel of Jesus the Messiah.
We are both very excited. This will be Philip's first trip as THE leader, and he is nervous, but confident at the same time. Becca is going as trip support once again. She is very good at helping a leader by supporting them.
Philip will be keeping up the Guatemala Team blogsite during the trip. Please visit www.guate2009.blogspot.com to see what is going on in Guatemala. The team loves to hear from you daily.
Two months with Friday the 13ths in them. Back to back. How strange is that?
I am still waiting to hear back from the Dept. of Homeland Security regarding the Customs Border Patrol Officer position. Right now I am expecting them to offer me the position, but there are still a few details to work out before I would accept. We'll see....I should hear back sometime in March, thus making the whole process almost 9 months long.
Things at the restaurant are still the same. Business is steady, but low. The managers are trying to push out about two or three of us. I interviewed with the Beverage Dept, for a salary position. Not something I want to do for a long time, but something that I could do that pays ok and will put me back eligble for benefits.
Missions is trying to rev up a little as we are now about six months away from the next trip. Another first for Real Missions as we attempt to have two trips leaving SeaTac airport at the same time. It will be neat to see it all work. We also have an orientation get away planned for the end of March that will get everyone going on the two trips excited. We are coming into the major fundraising season, so watch out for notification from us :)
Yes, I love mission trips and I know that God has called me to work on the mission field, but I love coming home. Flying over Seattle, looking out the window make me feel so good.
Seven years and my dream has finally come true. It was so much more that I ever expected it to be! The people of the Mo tribe are so kind and welcoming, they have beautiful faces and warm smile. I can't describe to you the feeling I got the first time I was swarmed by the kids...and when I say swarmed, I mean swarmed! They learn English in school so we were able to talk to the kids a little, but they younger ones were really shy as they are still learning to speak English. The older kids were a big help in communicating. They love to touch our hand and skin because we have hair on our arms and our skin a softer...mostly because we don't have to work with our bare hands from the time we can carry things.
We saw a women carrying a log on her head...a real log about 5 feet long. They carry everything on their heads so we tried to but didn't do very well.
I put in the video that Philip edited for our mission trip. Please take a look at it.
Thank you all for your support and prayers!
Becca
I just finished my Tukwila Police Department interview. I think it went pretty well. Much better than the one three years ago. I will find out officially within the next 10 days, probably sooner.
Becca is doing fine over in Ghana. If you haven't heard, you can check up on the teams progress at:
www.realmissionsghanateam.blogspot.com I am looking forward to her return on Saturday.
Her business is really picking up, which I believe is just God blessing her for being faithful to go. In the meantime, I am continuing to look for a more permanent position. It may be that we just have to push her business forward a bit and try to go big with it. Time will tell.
I'm so looking forward to the weather changing. Hopefully it will change soon. I really like the summers around here. There is some interest in going caving again, and hopefully we can coordinate a team to go.
Becca is getting really excited about her upcoming trip. If you haven't received a letter already, you should get one soon telling more about it. She has wanted to go to Ghana for years now, so this is the fulfilment of many years of desire. God has placed those children over there on her heart. I look forward to seeing how this trip will change her.
I have been actively working on Real Missions material over the last few months. It has been good to be involved again. The manual and help materials we have produced look great and are very useful. I am beginning preparations for the trip I will be leading to Guatemala in July. You will hear more about that over the next few months, but it will be the first trip I have lead from start to finish. If you know me, you know how exciting that is. It is possible, Real Missions will take two trips to Guatemala this year, but that is up to God.
Philip has been bugging me ever since he started this site to get on and post so here goes. I don't usually take the time to do this sort of stuff because I am a big fan of paper, pen and stamps. But that hasn't happened in a very long time.
I am working hard to help out with the family budget. I babysit about 2 days a week for a cutie little girl named Eve who is 1 year old and sometimes her sister Nora (5) when she is home from school. They are a bundle of energy as Eve is just starting to walk and Nora wants all the attention. I love it though. I have just accepted the team lead position at Jamba Juice and will begin training next week. I like it there and the job is fun.
I restarted my home business after taking the summer to focus on the Guate mission trip. I am going to do my best to keep it going and make this business a success. I like the food and I enjoy hosting shows and the fun we have at the parties.
I am starting to fund raise for the mission trip to Africa in April - yes Africa. I will be joining with several other women (pray for men to join the team so Clark is not alone) to work with a tribe in Ghana. The Chief of this tribe has attended our church for several years and we have supported his village in many ways. This will be the first "team" to go and work locally with the villagers. I can't wait. I start fund raising this month and will have at least one every month until I go. I will keep everyone posted on that.
Okay, I think that is all I can do right now. My wrists hurt.
Can't wait to see you all (except the Dowells) in November!
